Car Rental Rates in Miami More than Triple over Christmas
December 19, 2012

If renting a car in Miami is on their Christmas checklist, holiday road warriors better be prepared to ask Santa for a bigger chunk of cash. A new survey conducted by CheapCarRental.net reveals that rental rates will more than triple in Miami over the December holiday season. In coming to this conclusion, the survey pitted car rental rates in 30 U.S. destinations against each other. The Christmas period spanning December 22–27 served as the basis of comparison.

To rent the cheapest available car in Miami over the Christmas timeframe, renters can currently expect to shell out $84 per day. That price tag represents a whopping $250% elevation over the usual rental rate of $24 per day. In addition, it positions Miami as the biggest percentage rate hiker among all destinations the survey evaluated.

But Miamians are not alone in this holiday price gouging. Phoenix and Denver are also socking car renters hard in the wallet. To rent a vehicle in Phoenix, holiday drivers can expect to pay at least $76 per day. At that rate, they’ll be shelling out 181% more than they normally would. While Denver appears to be a bit more budget-friendly at $62 per day during the Christmas timeframe, that cost still equates to a triple-digit increase of 148%.

The most expensive location overall to rent a vehicle is Hawaii’s Honolulu. There, the cheapest available car will cost renters $106 over the Christmas time period, according to the survey. That’s 112% more than it would normally set them back.
