Survey
The most expensive car rental destinations in Europe
August 9, 2017

Trondheim and Oslo in Norway have been found to be two of the most expensive European destinations for car rentals, according to a new survey.

The survey by CheapCarRental.net looked into prices across 50 destinations during the month of August. Each destination’s main airport was assigned as the pick-up and drop-off point.

Coming top of the rankings was Trondheim, where you will need to spend an average of €342 for a week’s car rental (the equivalent of 6 days) for the cheapest car available. In the Norwegian capital of Oslo, prices are not much cheaper at €328 per week. Yet both cities were cheaper than Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland and the most expensive European destination according to the survey, with visitors needing to pay an average rate of €345 per week.

About the Survey:
For a total of 50 European destinations, the rate for the cheapest available car was established for the following periods: August 4-10, 11-17, 18-24 and 25-31. We then calculated the average weekly rental price, resulting in the rankings above. Rates were established in late July using a leading online car rental price comparison engine. For the purpose of our searches, we allocated each city’s main airport as the pick-up and drop-off point.
